Pushhands is a two man exercise that develops understanding and skills.
At the Basic Single Hand levels we learn to:
- listen to quickness & slowness
- hardness & softness
- maintain framework
- find center lines
- use the 8 expressions
Sifu would tell us that "Teaching someone to hit is easy, compared to teaching someone not to be hit."
Advanced Single Hand Levels we learn to:
- Rotate the center
- Redirect the oncoming force
- Avoid the Dead End
- Apply Fa Jing
Application Single Hand Tui Shou Level we learn to:
- Intercept with the Pigfoot hand
- Capture the exposed Crimson Palace
- Punish the Oncoming Force by seizing opponents balance
- Add Single Advancing Step
Double hand Pushhands has two distinct Levels
1) Listening and Moving Basics
- Learn the two man exercise of Grasping Birds Tail with two hands and stepping
2) Application
This is the last level of training before it goes into San Shou, full contact skills:
- Free form, there is no form
- Free Stepping, utilize all your footwork
- Seize your opponents balance while protecting your own
- Redirecting, Intercepting, Smothering Oncoming forces
- Use Fajing and expel your opponent out of the circles
- Create your opportunity
