Start Your Day with Boots on Ground | Point them in right Direction
When training Kung Fu, put as much emphasis on the mind, as the body.
Having a foundation and direction each day is paramount in life and training. My 11 year old son and I start the mornings with a 3 minute meditation to get a direction.
It has helped me as a father. It has helped him in knowing his responsibilities and dealing with personalities at school. Working the mind, ultimate kung fu :)
"The closer you are to stepping in right direction, with the first steps you take each day. The easier it is to get there."

TKF 003 : Weaving KungFu Styles
Posted on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 12:24 PM by Sifu TW Smith the site author">Sifu TW Smith
Practicing KungFu or any other Martial Art takes time and effort. It is
often important to remember the reasons to practice martial arts are
greater than just training hands and feet. You must develop heart and
your mind.
Through this show, we will look at the advantages of not clinging to style, but to gather understanding from each.
Through time we would weave together one style into a next. Later we would return to our Hop Gar, Bagua, or Hsing I, and find quickly that it was actually better than we left it.
Benefits of Weaving Through
"Just because something is simple, doesn't make it easy."
During this podcast I discuss the benefits and challenges of weaving different styles through the course of years. Examples of people such as Bruce Lee and Ancient Shaolin who would achieve excellence in a style and then build onto it in other ways. Examples of people who did the same things in their personal lives.
Training for Excellence : Internally and/or Externally
During this 9:23 second podcast you will also be able to see how we can use the same tools and ingredients, but on simple perspective, develop many different things.

TKF 002 Beach Retreat 2014 Podcast
Posted on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 2:28 PM by Sifu TW Smith the site author">Sifu TW Smith
Changing your environment, even for a weekend can stir your energy.
Each year for several years Tibetan Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan has had a beach retreat to re-establish our practice.
It is not a publicized revenue generator. It is a retreat for our Kung Fu | Tai Chi Family. This year we focused on training Ba Gua on the beach, and a good side of Hop Gar as well.

A very small NC beach town is where we go off to. A small place my grandfather and grandmother built in the 1960's. My memories there are back to 1968 and it is a special place.
Now my son thinks of it as is second home, my mom takes him as she took me, as often as possible.
It is truly a pleasure to share this with my KungFu Family and we always enjoy it.
In this podcast we recognize some of the folks who attended and send a hello to some who weren't able to participate this year.

TKF 001 Introduction to Our KungFu Kwoon Podcast
Posted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 6:00 AM by Sifu TW Smith the site author">Sifu TW Smith
Our First Podcast
Thank you for stopping by the Tibetan Kung Fu Blog. It has been a work in motion and we are striving to get better.
Our first podcast is designed to introduce ourselves and to help address frequently asked questions about our training hall (Kwoon). Over the years I have been told that we are:
- "Old School"
- "A Throwback"
- "Fresh and Relaxing"
- "Hard to Find"
You can see what many folks have said about us, some publicaly, Look at recent Testimonials
These are wonderful comments to my ears. Many our students have been with us going on 7-10 years. In all honesty though, our school doesn't run by a 'design', it is simply the only way I know how.
The Kwoon
Our Kwoon (Chinese Martial Art Training Hall) runs the only way I remember mine running. Over the years I have taken heat for not changing into a "new business model" or "not emphasizing profits". I never got involved in Kung Fu for that, and I don't stay in it for that.
We love seeing people grow, progress, pull themselves from the shadows and makes themselves stronger and better, in many aspects.
The Curriculum
Our approach to training is always the same, it is the techniques that change. If the intent is to help the student, then you must take each one and discover where is the comfort zone, where is the most resistance. Each student is different, but our objective is the same:
Work Diligently - Be Steady - Assess and Change
"Practice to be a better person first, A better martial artist second."
We hope that you find answers to many of your questions in our first podcast. We want your feedback, and we are working to make it better.
Thank you again for the opportunity to introduce ourselves.
